Tariq Khokhar is the Wellcome Trust’s Head of Data for Science and Health. Wellcome is a global philanthropic foundation committed to investing £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate. He leads a multidisciplinary team of data and technology experts, who shape and fund trustworthy data science initiatives to advance this mission. Previously, Tariq was Chief Data Scientist and Managing Director of the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, and Chief Data Scientist and Global Data Editor of the World Bank in Washington DC. He’s a Director of UK BioBank, one of the world’s largest biomedical research resources, containing in-depth genetic and health information from half a million UK participants. He also serves as Board Chair of DataKind UK, a charity which mobilises the talents of pro-bono data scientists to help social sector organisations in the UK achieve their missions. Tariq is a mathematician and computer scientist by training and lives in Stroud, a market town in the Cotswolds in South West England.
